Proceeds to support Tansley’s First Nations project, we are supporting projects that are being organized in Fort Albany in the James Bay region. Funds from this event will be directed to a project being run by Edmund and Joan Metatawabin – Edward is the author of “Up Ghost River”. They are organizing a summer youth rafting retreat, during which the youth will be repairing their ancestral cemeteries. This allows youth to explore both their cultural and spiritual heritage. In Joan’s words “It's a great project, very needed for our young people to learn about the history of their ancestors. The Albany River is a beautiful river, clean and winding all the way up from Fort Albany to Lake St. Joseph north of Thunder Bay. Sadly, many of our children don't get a chance to travel this historic highway very often, if at all. Ed's program, taking those children on the land and introducing them to the historic aspects of the environment, can have life-changing effects on them.”
