DON’T BE REMISS ABOUT REMITS!
Join us at 4:30pm for a Remits Recap: What was decided? What are the likely implications? What will be the challenges faced? How will Halton Presbytery explore the “new normal”? Don’t be remiss about remits! Let’s talk.
2. During the regular meeting of Presbytery beginning at 7:00 p.m.– same date and place there will an opportunity to explore the last remit, Remit 6, on One Order of Ministry.
Tansley will need to consider this Remit and submit our vote by February 28, 2018 to the General Council Office. As with the votes on the previous remits which were submitted this past June, failure to submit a vote is recorded as the pastoral charge (Tansley) having voted against the remit.
Please go to www.gc42/remits to refresh your memory on Remit 6 – One Order of Ministry. (Currently there are 3: Ordained, Diaconal and Designated Lay Ministers) Those attending the meeting on September 26 will be sharing questions and comments but there will not be a vote. If you would like to read reflections on this remit by others, check out the Touchstone website at http://touchstonecanada.ca/blog/
Results from the Remit voting process
The following is a letter released by the United Church of Canada regarding the outcome of the recent Remit vote.
July 5, 2017
Greetings from the General Council Office.
I am writing to let you know of the voting results for Remits 1
to 4. All four remits were approved by a majority of the 84 voting presbyteries
and 2136 voting pastoral charges of the United Church.

A Remit Scenario Planning group, co-chaired by Alan Hall (Executive Minister, Ministry and Personnel), and Peter Hartmans (Executive Secretary, Hamilton Conference), has been meeting over the past year to do preliminary thinking on the change process, depending on which of the remits received approval. This group will now be re-mandated as the Remit Implementation group, to have broad oversight over the plans for implementation of the changes that will follow if General Council gives its approval to the decisions that have been approved by remit. David Allen has agreed to step away from his position as Executive Secretary of Toronto Conference to accept the full time assignment as Project Leader for this work.
The 42nd General Council will reconvene for an electronic meeting on September 30, 2017 to put plans in motion for determining the boundaries of the regional councils, and a nominations process for the next General Council Executive, pending the final step in the remit process.
Thank you all for your participation in this important work of the church.
